Crosby High School

Welcome to Base 4

Base 4 is Key Stage 4 nurture base class.  Our pupils access most of their lessons within our classroom with a consistent form team.  However, they also access three Options classes with specialist teachers where they are working towards qualifications.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays.

Forest School is also on a Tuesday.

This half term we have Food Technology on a Wednesday. After Christmas, we will return to Art during this session.

Meet the Team

Form Teacher - Mriss Patterson

Teaching Assistants - Ms Robinson (Monday – Wednesday), Miss Holyland (Thursday & Friday) and Mrs Houghton

Recent Highlights - Autumn 1

Literacy focus:

We are currently reading an abridged “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens.  This allows our pupils to experience and engage with classic literature. We are focusing on the themes of good vs evil, making good choices in life, crime and punishment, family and belonging, honesty and hope.

Science focus: This term we are working on a Physics unit about the Earth and Space. We are researching information about the planets in our solar system and learning about how the movement of Earth affects day and night, and how the movement of the Moon affects its phases

Maths Focus:

The maths curriculum this half term is Measure, Time and Shape. We are enhancing our skills in measuring length, weight and capacity, telling the time, knowing the days and months, and recognising 2D and 3D shapes.

Personal Development

This term in our PD Passports, we are thinking about our social confidence and leadership skills.

Learning outside the classroom:

On Thursdays we practice our key math skills in money handling and shopping.  We visit different local shops, either walking to the village (also practicing our road crossing skills!) or using the bus to go further.  These trips help us manage our money and decision making skills by finding items from our shopping lists or appropriate alternatives if necessary, and ensuring we have enough money for our purchases.  We also build our social confidence by asking shop staff for help if we need it, and make sure we are behaving appropriately within the community.
