Crosby High School

Welcome to Base 3

Welcome to Base 3! We are a friendly, nurturing and hardworking class who learn through creativity, curiosity and hands-on experiences. Our classroom is a place where everyone is valued, encouraged, and supported to do their best.

Base 3 is led by Mr Hannaway, our Form Teacher and principal class teacher. He teaches English, Phonics, Reading, PE, Forest School and Topic. We are also taught by Miss Wilson, who teaches Maths, ICT, Science and RE. We are lucky to have the support of our fantastic teaching assistants: Miss Clifford, Mrs Dennis and Mrs Glorman, who work alongside us every day.

We spend around half of our learning time in our classroom, and the rest moving to different learning spaces around school. This includes areas for Food Technology, Design Technology, Music and PSHE, as well as our outdoor learning environments for Forest School and practical activities.

In Base 3, we learn in a way that builds confidence, independence and life skills. We read daily, explore nature, work together as a team, and celebrate each other's achievements.

Recent Highlights - Autumn 1

Literacy focus: Last term, we had an exciting and memorable half-term full of learning, creativity and adventure. In English, we read Flat Stanley and took part in our very own Flat Stanley project, where the children created their own Stanleys and sent them on journeys to different places. We enjoyed hearing all the stories, reading letters and seeing where our Stanleys ended up around the community and beyond!

Science focus: In Science, we explored Space. We learned about the planets in our solar system, day and night, the moon and its phases, and what astronauts need to survive in space. The children enjoyed hands-on activities, model making and interactive discussions about life beyond Earth.

Topic Focus: In Topic, we looked at Changes Within a Lifetime. We compared Goodison Park and the new Everton stadium, learning about how buildings and communities change over time. We were lucky enough to visit both stadiums, exploring how places hold memories, meaning and history.

Learning outside the classroom: For Forest School, we had plenty of outdoor adventures. We visited Formby Woods, took countryside walks and worked closely with the school animals. The children learned how to care for nature, observe wildlife and work together as a team in our outdoor environment.

It was a wonderful term full of teamwork, curiosity and new experiences!
