KS3
Students will develop a series of skills relating to the key processes of art and design:
- Observe & record from first-hand observation, experience & imagination.
- Investigate using line / tone / colour / shape / form / pattern / texture.
- Experiment with a range of media / techniques & processes.
- Express & communicate ideas & feelings.
Pupils will also have the opportunity to:
- Research and investigate.
- Learn how codes and conventions are used to convey ideas / meanings in a range of cultures.
- Reflect on and evaluate their own and others’ work.
- Adapt and refine their own work.
- Develop ideas and intentions when creating artwork.
- Organise & present their own work appropriately.
KS4
At KS4 pupils will study Art and Design as part of the overarching Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Further Learning and Employment. The primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare pupils for further learning or employment. It offers a mix of personal development and employability skills alongside an introduction to a range of vocational sectors and will be taught alongside Hospitality and Catering, Travel and Tourism and Business Studies. Two units will run over the course of a year and pupils will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence to achieve the credits in each subject area.
In unit 1 pupil focus will be - Discovering Arts and Culture:
Throughout this topic the learner will:
- Be able to research a chosen theme from any culture in any area of the arts.
- Be able to understand the context in which the chosen artist/s movement or theme developed.
- Be able to understand the general characteristics of the artistic period, movement or theme chosen.
- Be able to assess the individual style of the artist/s, movement or theme chosen.
- Be able to explore and communicate a personal response to the chosen artist/s, movement or theme chosen.
In unit 2 pupil focus will be - Design Project
Throughout this topic the learner will:
- Know how to source research material appropriate to the needs of the project.
- Be able to plan design project work.
- Know how to record ideas for project development.
- Be able to develop and complete design projects using appropriate. materials and techniques.
- Be able to reflect on your own work.
How do we help your child achieve their potential?
Pupil achievement is continually assessed, in terms of technical proficiency, working methods and knowledge. Pupils are given regular verbal and written feedback to support further improvement. Pupils are also involved in evaluating their own and each other’s achievement.
